New director appointed

The Minister of Social Affairs, Ms. Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, has appointed Ms. Kristín Ástgeirsdóttir as the director of the Centre for Gender Equality. The appointment is for five years starting September 1, 2007.

Ms. Ástgeirsdóttir was previously the director of The Centre for Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Iceland (RIKK) from 2005 to 2007. She has taught gender studies at the University of Iceland since 2003 and she worked for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and UNIFEM in Kosovo from 2000 to 2001. She was a member of Althingi, the Icelandic Parliament, from 1991 to 1999.
