Global Gender Gap Report 2013 - Iceland the most advanced for fifth year running

A study published by the World Economic Forum has found that for the fifth successive year Iceland ranks as the most advanced county in the world in terms of gender equality. Along with Finland (2nd), Norway (3rd) and Sweden (4th), Iceland has closed over 80% of its gender gap.

The Global Gender Gap Index is a framework for capturing the scope of gender based disparities and measures progress based on economic, political, education- and health based criteria. The Index is constructed to rank countries on their gender gap but not on their development level, therefore the index rewards countries for smaller gaps in access to resources regardless of the overall level of resources.
